Mining hearth / pit.

  • View upward in Tian Ping Miao Tiankeng.
  • A tree trunk that had fallen into the tiankeng.
  • Most of the expedition team spent the day admiring (and traveling along) the work done by our climbers and exploring potential leads on the way between the two tiankengs.
  • Tian Ping Miao Tiankeng does not actually meet the definition of a tiankeng - it's diameter is way too small.

  • Derigging the traverse line into the tiankeng, since we didn't find any more leads continuing onward from there.
  • Wind blowing through the constriction between Da Luo Dang Tiankeng and the miners' passage that we dubbed "Walk the Plank". (Due to a number of wooden stempels found to ease traversing at specific levels through rifty passage.)

  • Log used by miners for a ladder to ascend/descend this pitch. Rungs have come loose and fallen on the floor.
  • Remains of an old wooden ladder or similar support structure.
  • Standing in some sort of miners hearth or basin. Behind the wall, at somewhat lower elevation, is a smaller basin. To collect something filtered from the large one?
